seminar abstract: The talk will focus on application of Finite Element method to various length scales, ranging from Quantum to Continuum Mechanics. First, we construct the basic framework for the link between the atomistic and the continuum worlds via averaging. So as to illustrate further applications of continuum mechanics, the final chapter contains an introductory discussion of materials with internal state variables. The book is essentially self contained and should be suitable for self study. Papers document research of Clifford Ambrose Truesdell III in rational mechanics and its history, and his role in the development of the field since the late s. Included are correspondence, lecture and course notes, lists of publications and lectures, drafts, galleys and page proofs of publications, grant proposals, reports, reprints, and photographs. Continuum mechanics is a mathematical framework for studying the transmission of force through and deformation of materials of all types. The goal is to construct a framework that is free of special assumptions about the type of material, the size of 5/5(1).
